DECEMBER 7, 2017, will go down as the first – and probably only – time Eva Prater and Marie Totino have rushed home from work to livestream federal Parliament.

That was the day marriage equality laws were debated and passed through the House of Representatives, paving the way for same-sex couples to wed.

It was a moment the Croydon Park pair had been waiting for since they got engaged two years ago.

“I am ‘tearing up’ now just thinking about it,” Ms Totino, 31, says.

“When it passed, it was just all of the feels ever, in one, just exploding.

“It is something that I have never felt before and that I will probably never feel again.”

The pair are among thousands of gay couples planning their nuptials in the wake of the historic vote.

First day of same sex marriages across Australia

To celebrate the rush to the altar, Adelaide Fringe is offering to throw a free wedding to a lucky LGBTIQ-identified couple at this year’s festival.

The $15,000 package includes a fully-catered ceremony and reception at the Fringe Club and a two-night honeymoon on Kangaroo Island.

Couples will have to film a 60-second video detailing their love story for a chance to win the prize.

Fringe director Heather Croall says the competition is the festival’s way of celebrating marriage equality.

“We are a strong supporter of same-sex marriage and we’re thrilled that all Australians regardless of their gender or sexuality now have the right to marry the person they love,” Ms Croall says.
