Adelaide fitness guru Kayla Itsines reveals her favourite cafes around town

She’s the Instafamous fitness guru who has taken the world by storm. But when it comes to good food (and cake), here’s where Kayla Itsines loves to hang out.

Fitness Queen Kayla Itsines says social media needs to get 'real'

When Adelaide fitness guru Kayla Itsines isn’t running bootcamps across the globe, she can be seen refuelling at cafes across the city. The Messenger reveals her top five and why they are her go-to eateries.

1. Whistle and Flute, Unley

This is my all-time favourite cafe because it’s kinda hidden away and has a great intimate vibe that’s kid and dog friendly. Plus it opens at 7am, so perfect for anyone wanting to start their day early with a delicious breakfast and strong coffee.

MUST-TRY: You must try the blue swimmer crab chilli scrambled eggs with Asian herbs. It’s my favourite! If you’re not into eating seafood in the morning, you can ask for the crab to be removed and still enjoy the chilli scrambled eggs with herbs – it just tastes amazing!

2. Hark! Coffee Roasters, Malvern

Hark is an awesome place to sit down with friends for a quick bite and good coffee. It also opens at 6.30am, so it’s a great place to grab a coffee if you’re up early. The Hark team are super friendly – they always remember your name and your order, plus they have their own cafe dog called Pilot, who you can’t miss because he’s huge (but super chilled)!

MUST-TRY: You can’t go past the coffee, which they roast themselves.

3. Part Time Lover, city

If you work (or live) in the city, this is a must for both coffee and breakfast. It’s also a great place for a casual business meeting, plus it’s open for lunch and dinner too.

MUST-TRY: There’s actually not one dish on the menu that I don’t love, but if I had to choose, it would be the turmeric roasted cauliflower. You would never think to have cauliflower for breakfast, but it’s a great non-meat/non-egg breakfast option.

4. Delicia, Parkside

A great all around cafe with nice decor and a good vibe. I love that you can build your own acai bowls or just order from the menu. Kids love them too. It’s also really handy that you can pre-order for pick up so if you’re in a rush you can still grab a healthy meal on the go.

MUST-TRY: The original acai bowl is my favourite.

5. Kalymnos Pastries, Torrensville

This cafe is a great place to get a taste of the real Greece, especially for anyone that’s returning from a trip from Greece and finds themselves craving Kataifi (almond syrup pastry) or Greek coffee.

MUST-TRY: I love their Greek cakes. I almost told my Yiayia (grandmother) once that I liked their Greek cakes more than hers – shhhhh don’t tell her! But seriously, it’s run by a gorgeous family who know their Greek treats. I wouldn’t trust anyone else (other than my Yiayia) for Greek cakes like these.
