AFTER accelerating towards some form of works being undertaken on the controversial Frome Rd bikeway, Adelaide City Council has once again put on the brakes.

The separated bikeway ends at the Pirie St intersection, leaving cyclists to ride out into an intersection with no designated lane, which one councillor labelled as a disaster waiting to happen.

A proposal was brought to council committee last week to extend a temporary, painted bike lane on Frome Rd between Pirie St and North Tce, to improve safety, however it has been put on hold in the hope the State Government will provide funding to finish the project.

At its Tuesday night meeting, however, council did vote on clearer signage to be erected in the meantime.

Councillor Anne Moran described the Frome Rd bikeway as “a dog of a project” while Cr Alex Antic likened it to a soap opera to rival that Neighbours and Home and Away.

However at last night’s meeting some progress was made in regards to the rainbow walk, which was approved by the council after it was first proposed more than a year ago.

It will be constructed in Light Square by the end of October in time for the Feast Festival and celebrate the city’s gay and lesbian community while recognising SA as the first state to decriminalise homosexuality in 1975.
