Chloe Williamson disqualified from driving after avoiding an RBT and assaulting police at North Adelaide

A drunk driver drove dangerously near pedestrians in a bid to avoid a random breath test, before assaulting and threatening to stab a police officer with her keys.

Police call drink drivers "selfish pricks"

A woman’s efforts to avoid a RBT escalated after she assaulted a police officer during arrest, which landed her in custody.

Chloe Alice Williamson, 23, will be off the roads for two years after she made a foolish decision to drive after a night of drinking.

A police prosecutor told the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Wednesday that Williamson was seen performing a U-turn and driving away from a random breath testing station on May 21 at North Adelaide.

She was followed by a police officer.

“She (Williamson) turned into the pedestrian area of the Adelaide oval … at the time pedestrians were present, walking around,” the police prosecutor said.

“Due to bollards the vehicle came to a stop.”

The court heard Williamson attempted to run from police before she was arrested.

“She had a key in her right hand, she threatened to stab the officer,” the police prosecutor said.

“She was resisting, she was punching the officer.”

The police officer received some minor swelling and bruising as a result of the struggle.

The court heard Williamson, who refused a breath test, also had her licence medically suspended at the time she was driving.

“Police observed that there was a strong smell of alcohol from her and she had difficulty walking,” the police prosecutor said.

Williamson, of Albert Park, pleaded guilty in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Wednesday to multiple charges, including driving dangerously and assaulting police.

Joel Horskins, for Williamson, told the court Williamson, who has no criminal history, spent nine days in custody for the offending.

The court heard Williamson went out for drinks on the night of the incident.

“Ms Williamson had a relationship breakdown two days earlier,” Mr Horskins said.

“She drank more than she intended to do so and then went to drive home.”

The court heard the assault of the police officer happened while Williamson was trying to break free.

“She had no intention to cause any harm to him,” Mr Horskins said.

The court heard Williamson is currently unemployed but is seeking work in real estate or administration.

Magistrate Stefan Metanomski fined Williamson $2200 and disqualified her from driving for two years.

Convictions were recorded.
