Henley Square’s Cafe Evida shuts suddenly before precinct’s $8.4m redevelopment is finished

UPDATE: A popular cafe at Henley Beach has closed up shop without warning. A typed note on the front door gives one reason for the closure — but we’ve got the full story.

A POPULAR Henley Square cafe has closed up shop without warning.

A notice posted on Cafe Evida’s front door reads that the restaurant “is closed until further notice due to the Henley Square Redevelopment”.

“We would like to say thankyou to all of our valued customers for the many years of support,” the notice reads.

“Please enjoy a coffee at Green Bean across the road in Henley Square Pavilion.”

However, the Weekly Times Messenger has discovered that the company behind Evida Cafe is set to be wound up by the end of the month.

Representatives of Felsun Pty Ltd are listed to appear in the Supreme Court on September 15 after Allclypt Pty Ltd — a Newton-based wholesale grocers company — made an application last month with the Australian Securities and Investments Commission to wind up the company.

Property developer Richard Antunes — the man behind Seaview Rd’s Baju and H20 apartments — founded Felsun Pty Ltd in 1991 and is the company’s sole director.

The Weekly Times Messenger has made attempts to contact Cafe Evida management for further comment.

Work on the Square’s $8.4 million redevelopment started in April and will be completed by November, Charles Sturt Council says.

It will include a timber deck from the square to the jetty, a fountain and more seats.

The long-awaited project’s time line was blown out in May after wild weather lashed the building site, damaging scaffolding and other building equipment in place for construction work.
