A road worker and her team have had their “faith in humanity” restored after an unknown woman brought pasties and sausage rolls while working in the rain at Williamstown.
Lewiston woman, Gemma Forsythe of ‘All Suburbs Bitumen’ was so overwhelmed by the random act of kindness she took to social media to spread word of the gesture in the hopes of reaching the kind stranger.
The post went viral, attracting hundreds of likes within hours and Ms Forsythe receiving messages of support from friends in the industry.
“It has done more than make my day, it has honestly made my year, in 15 years of roadworks I’ve never experienced anything like this,” said Ms Forsythe.
Ms Forsythe said she had no idea who the woman was, only that she looked around 40, had blonde hair and drove a white LandCruiser.
“At about 9:20am I was on the stop and slow sign and it was absolutely belting down with rain, this woman beckoned me over and I thought here we go-someone’s going to have a go at us as usual,” she said.
“To my surprise she said she had driven past and thought we looked freezing cold in the rain, giving out six hot pasties and sausage rolls for the four of us.”
“I’m so overwhelmed by the experience, I've had so much feedback from other ladies in trade saying its unheard of.”
It comes as a welcome change for Ms Forsythe who said road workers often have to endure abuse and disdain from the public, inconvenienced by lower speeds.
“I’ve been spat on, sworn at, I’ve had a gentleman stop his car 2cm away from me … pretending to run me over and there’s been times where we’ve had to jump out of the way of speeding traffic,” she said.
“It’s always abuse, in terms of friendliness we get people waving maybe at the most, I’ve never had someone give such a kind gesture, it’s restored my faith in humanity.”
Ms Forsythe who works both onsite and as office manager at All Suburbs Bitumen also took to the airwaves to find her good Samaritan, calling SAFM and describing her experience.
