A man who allegedly rammed a police car with such force it lifted off the ground left a police officer injured, a court was told.

Brad Roy Keith Beck, 25, applied for bail by video link from custody in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Tuesday, after he allegedly took drastic measures in his attempts to evade police.

A police prosecutor opposed the bail application, due to the seriousness of the alleged offending.

The court heard police attempted to stop Beck on February 26 at Gawler and activated their emergency lights and sirens.

“While being pursued, the accused turned down a dead-end street,” the police prosecutor said.

“The police officer then stopped the vehicle across the end of that street approximately two to three metres away from the accused’s vehicle.

“The accused then rammed the police vehicle twice and drove away with such force that the police officer that was in the vehicle says that she felt the police vehicle lift up off the ground.”

The court heard since the incident, the police officer had suffered from headaches, discomfort, neck pain, lower back pain and required an MRI.

The police prosecutor said while Beck did not have serious history, it was relevant to the current charges and included resisting police and multiple traffic offences.

Beck, of, Para Hills West is charged with multiple offences, including causing harm to a worker and failing to stop a vehicle.

He is yet to enter any pleas.

Counsel, for Beck, told the court Beck had now been in custody for over three months.

“Mr Beck does not have much of a history at all,” the lawyer said.

“He’s a young man … he resides and can reside again with his girlfriend.”

Chief magistrate Mary-Louise Hribal denied Beck bail.

The charges were adjourned until August.
