An international study has revealed what many of us already know – Adelaideans are more fair dinkum than our interstate counterparts. Here’s why.

It’s official and truthfully, we knew it, Adelaide is the most honest city in the country, and third in the world according to a new study.

Despite high brow east coast types forever claiming superiority, it seems our “big country town feel” counts for something, namely sincerity.

German data analytics group Twinner released a ranked list of cities this month compiling data on the reputation of car dealerships, government transparency, theft and more to determine honesty.

In 75 prominent cities around the world, Adelaide came in as the third most honest, behind Zurich and Tokyo who took out first and second respectively.

It comes after Adelaide was named the third most liveable city in the world in June.

At this point in two separate polls we’re both the third most liveable, and honest city, with no other Australian cities even getting close.

Perhaps we need to aim for most humble too.

The metric took into a range of factors, boiling down to little things like a dropped wallet test in the city itself.

“Government transparency was measured using data on corruption, budget transparency and electoral integrity, while economic transparency was quantified by the estimated percentage of shadow economy present in a location,” a Twinner spokesman said.

“Societal transparency was measured by the extent to which the rule of law, voice and accountability and the freedom of the press was present.”

“Next, the focus was narrowed back onto a city-level, by looking at the perception of theft by its citizens, which helps to illustrate how people rate their neighbours‘ honesty levels.”

Adelaide also ranked 30th out of 75 for positive car dealership reviews, fifth for civic honesty and 11th for perception of crime.
