United Australia Party leader Craig Kelly lands in Adelaide, to welcome from 300 people

He was egged on the campaign trail last week, but United Australia Party leader Craig Kelly got a friendly welcome in Adelaide on Sunday.

He was egged one day, cheered the next.

United Australia Party leader Craig Kelly’s visit to Adelaide proved to be in stark contrast to his headline-making egging while on the campaign trail in Melbourne last week.

Welcomed by around 300 supporters dressed in yellow, Mr Kelly joined other party candidates at Elder Park on Sunday in a bid to rally the troops ahead of the May 21 federal election.

Military veterans, farmers and young families joined Mr Kelly for a 12 minute presentation before a wave of fans inundated him with selfie and group photo requests.

Mr Kelly took aim at both Labor and the Liberal party, claiming Australia – under their leadership – were set for an authoritarian future.

This, he claimed, was particularly true when it came to managing Covid-19.

“A country where you have to show your medical records to enter a cafe, or to cross a state border, or to hire a car or even just to have your job is not the Australia that I want for my kids or my grandkids,” Mr Kelly told the cheering crowd.

“So we put out our policy platform (which) is a complete contrast to the Labor and
Liberal parties.”

Mr Kelly begged supporters to help secure voters by speaking to family, friends, colleagues and even strangers “you bump into on the street” about their support for the UAP.

He said a major advertising campaign would also commence shortly.

“Say it loudly, say it proudly, say it repeatedly up until those polling booths close at 6pm and then we can make history,” Mr Kellys said.
