Insta-famous, “Awesome Steve” will be the star of the show at a unique bushfire appeal in Callington.
Mioshi Park Alpacas is hosting an open day this Sunday to raise vital funds for the CFS, where it will showcase its 49-strong herd.
Steve the Awesome Alpaca, as he is known on his Facebook and Instagram accounts, is expected to draw in the crowds, with owner Jodie Burr expecting “a few hundred” visitors.
“I’m actually a bit scared of how big it’s becoming and how many people have said they would come, but I guess it’s all for a good cause,” she said.
“Steve will definitely be the star. A lot of people know him or know of him as we used to take him to childcare centres and other events.”
Ms Burr said the event, which will run from 10am to 12.30am, would give animal lovers the chance to get up-and-close with one of her furry mates for a good cause.
“People will be able to take them for walks, take photos with them and generally just get to know more about the breed,” she said.
“A lot of people think they are Llamas, but there are actually a lot of differences. For one, they don’t really spit.”
That said, people looking for a more Llama-like experience on the day, are also covered.
“I have one alpaca here, Vulcanite, who has been taught to spit on command,” she said.
“All you have to do is tickle or kiss his nose gently and he’ll sneeze on you. It’s just a bit of fun and people are certainly welcome to give it a go.”
Mioshi Park Alpacas is located at 1036 Back Callington Rd, Callington.
