A man who worked at a construction site at Mt Barker Primary has tested positive to Covid-19.
The worker, who is understood to have attended a wedding in Melbourne earlier this month, returned a positive result on Thursday last week, prompting his immediate quarantine at Tom’s Court.
Many of his co-workers have also been forced into seven-day home quarantine with the man believed to have been infectious on school grounds for up to three days.
The announcement comes only a day after St Paul’s Lutheran Homes in Hahndorf declared it would go into lockdown with a Covid-19 case believed to have attended the site.
A SA Health spokeswoman said investigations were ongoing with the department declaring the redevelopment site an official close contact exposure location late Wednesday night.
Days of concern include Thursday, December 9 between 7am and 3.30pm, Wednesday, December 8 between 7am and 3pm and Tuesday, December 7 between 7am and 3pm.
“We only list public exposure locations if there is a risk to the public, or if we are unable to identify everyone through the initial contact tracing process,” the spokeswoman said.
“We rely on the information provided to us by the positive cases through this process to make these decisions.
“If additional information comes to light, we will then review the situation and reassess any relevant exposure sites and associated potential contacts.
“This can sometimes mean an exposure site may be publicly listed sometime after the initial exposure.”
Local state member Dan Cregan has complained about slow notification of the incident.
“News of a positive casual contact at Mt Barker Primary School is of significant concern to my community,” Mr Cregan said.
“Yesterday, inquiries came into our office about the possibility of a casual Covid contact at the primary school.
“I’m particularly frustrated that SA Health did not advise me as a local member of the case and instead I learned about it after attempting to make separate inquiries, including with local school teachers.”
