Hahndorf to host inaugural Adelaide Hills Junior Soccer Association Regional Cup

More than 200 rising soccer stars will showcase their skills at SA’s first regional cup this weekend.
Youngsters from Whyalla, Port Lincoln, Mount Gambier and the Hills will take to the field at Hahndorf Soccer Club this Saturday and Sunday, for an event that could become an annual fixture on the state’s sporting calendar.
Senior coach and event coordinator James Kerr said the creation of the event was prompted by the cancellation of the under-16 state and country championships due to COVID-19.
Not wanting players to miss out, Mr Kerr approached the Adelaide Hills Junior Soccer Association to create a new tournament – the Adelaide Hills Junior Soccer Association 2020 Regional Cup.
“The under-16 age group is our highest level of competition that goes through all the regional areas, including Whyalla, Port Lincoln, Brokenhills, Mildura, Port Pirie in the Riverland and of course Limestone Coast which is Mount Gambier,” Mr Kerr said.
“However, due to COVID, most of our regional tournaments didn’t go ahead, meaning players missed out.
“So I put together an idea to have a tournament for the under 16 boys and girls...which is based on the country championships with play off on Saturday and the finals on Sunday.
“This means we’ll have around 160 players and coaches, as well as supporters come to Hahndorf to play and enjoy everything this town has to offer.”
Mr Kerr said the event would kick-off at 8am, Saturday with the Hills boys taking on Port Lincoln.
