A land transfer has paved the way for an upgrade at a popular Hills hotel.
Adelaide Hills Council this week agreed to accept the transfer of two parcels of land from the State Government, after years of negotiations.
The council will take ownership of almost 140sq m at 51 Strathalbyn Rd, allowing the Aldgate Pump Hotel to improve its outdoor dining area – including the installation of awnings and wind protection – without State Government approval.
Pump Hotel publican Josie O’Donnell welcomed the move.
“For a long time, no one really seemed to know who owned that land, so there was a lot of going back and forth,” Ms O’Donnell said.
“Outdoor dining is a big thing for us.
“The back of the pub is all beautiful but the front isn’t very nice and we’ll seek to upgrade that but need the right permissions.
“So to hear that council will officially own it is great news as it’ll make everything so much easier.”
The transfer of land at 13 Horn St, Houghton, means the council now owns all five titles in what is known as Houghton Square.
That transfer follows three unsuccessful acquisition applications since 2016.
A council spokeswoman said the transfer of land had been a long time coming with staff already maintaining both properties “for the benefit of the community”.
“The land at Houghton already constitutes a portion of the Houghton Common, a community space heavily used by its community,” she said.
“The acquisition of the land at Aldgate will allow for more simplified management of the road reserve.”
