Adelaide Hills Council is demanding that neighbouring Campbelltown Council publicly declare where it stands on controversial boundary reforms.

During Monday night’s council meeting, Adelaide Hills councillors moved to back a motion for its chief executive to issue a letter, requesting Campbelltown to put the discussion to annex Rostrevor and Woodforde on the agenda.

It comes as Campbelltown remains tight-lipped over a formal request made by its eastern neighbour in June to withdraw plans to lodge a Stage 2 application with the state’s Boundaries Commission.

Adelaide Hills Council acting chief executive Lachlan Miller said it was time for Campbelltown to be upfront with residents on their future plans.

He said almost 600 households had been left anxious since the boundary reforms first made headlines early last year.

“We have made it clear, in support of our community’s opposition views as acquired through our 2019 survey, that we don’t support their proposal and have asked them to withdraw it,” Mr Miller said.

“So this motion, we hope, will add extra pressure on Campbelltown to put the proposed boundary reform on their agenda.

“At this point in time, Campbelltown hasn’t considered the request (to withdraw the proposal) so what the motion is saying is: `You say you’re concerned about the views of the community but you don’t seem to be taking action that gives effect to that. So come on Campbelltown, take it seriously.”

Campbelltown chief executive Paul Di Lulio said his council was currently considering a motion on notice regarding boundary reforms at its meeting next Tuesday.

He said he would not commit to a final decision by the proposed October 6 deadline as his council was planning to conduct its own thorough collection of data on the matter in the months ahead.

“Campbelltown City Council has already advised Adelaide Hills Council on two occasions that it will consider whether it withdraws or proceeds with the proposal once it has all the information it needs to make an informed decision,” Mr Di Lulio said.

“Campbelltown City Council has not conducted any formal community consultation on the boundary reform as yet because 2020, as we all know, has been a year that has delivered some very substantial health and wellbeing challenges for all of us.

“However, we are looking forward to fair, open and transparent discussion that is very much aligned with the spirit and goodwill as set out by the new boundary reform system.”
