Liverpool dismisses claims over Victory stake but club retains strong link with A-League club

LIVERPOOL dismisses claims over buying a Melbourne Victory stake but club retain strong link with A-League club.

LIVERPOOL has distanced itself from reports that it has been in talks with Melbourne Victory about buying a stake in the club.

It had been suggested that Victory had instigated preliminary talks with the EPL powerhouse last weekend but the club has been quick to deny that this has taken place.

A Liverpool spokesman told Fox Sports:

"There is absolutely nothing in this whatsoever. I obviously can't speak for any future intentions the club might have but right now there is nothing in this at all."

A formal business partnership of some sort down the track is a possibility however with the Reds and the Victory enjoying a strong relationship following on from their hugely successful tour down under in July that saw 95,000 fans turn out at the MCG for a friendly.

The Victory coach on that occasion, Ange Postecoglou had meetings with Reds manager Brendan Rodgers during his two day visit to the club two weeks ago as part of his Socceroos scouting mission, while current Victory boss Kevin Muscat spent time studying at the club at the beginning of the current EPL campaign.

The Victory's General Manager of Operations, Trent Jacobs has also been seen at Anfield this season as a guest of Liverpool executives.
