‘You have no empathy’: Lauren was annoying… but no one deserves this

"She's genuinely hurt. She's got a heart, she's got feelings," Tim stood up for the jilted bride during in the brutal reunion dinner.

It was easy to hate Lauren at the beginning.

Matched with apparent nice-guy Jonno, it seemed like the experts had doomed them to fail.

“You’re too nice,” Lauren told Jonathan on the honeymoon. Note that earlier in the episode she declared that red flags were her favourite colour of flags.

“Are you f**king kidding?” Jonno hit back in a way that was very much not nice-guy.

“People say they want the nice guy, and then they find hm and they’re like, ‘Actually this is boring’,” he said later.

A rocky start for Lauren, but her truth-sayer style grew on us – it’s kind of refreshing coming across a person who can't help but blurt out exactly what comes into their minds.

But no matter how anyone felt about Lauren, she didn’t deserve to be the butt of tonight's MAFS joke, to be humiliated in private all season culminating in a public humiliation when Jonno and Ellie walked into the reunion, hand-in-hand.

Jonathan and Ellie are loved up in MAFS reunion

The new couple was the last to enter the pre-dinner party and they made the most of their entrance, looking loved up and happy. Even though it was nice to see a couple doing well, it felt like they were rubbing Lauren's face in it.

“Yup, we’re official,” Ellie announced happily as everyone sat around the dinner table.

“I just have to say I feel so good when I’m with Jonno. I’m so happy.

“Everyone says I’m glowing… it’s not a tan, it’s Jonno.”

“I wouldn’t change anything,” Jonno added.

When asked to consider how Lauren might be feeling, Jonno was sharp.

“You’re not hurt, you don’t give a s**t about me,” he snapped.

Lauren was furious and felt like she’d been painted the villain when she was just expressive and sweary.

“Of course I’m hurt. I’ve been made to look like I’m an evil bitch,” she said. “I felt in my gut something was wrong and I was right.

“It’s never about what the other person does, it’s always about how I react.”

Jonno and Ellie let loose on Lauren

The discussion got heated, with Jonno getting attacked by the dinner guests for being dishonest. For six weeks during the experiment, he texted with Ellie. He insisted it was innocent, but isn't it interesting how they ended up together.

Jonno deflected wildly.

He turned on Ben, saying he screwed up a good thing with Ellie, then he turned on Sarah, calling her a cheater. Then he turned the tables, revealing a private conversation he'd had with Tim, in which Tim said he wasn't sure about Sarah.

And even if all those things were true, it didn’t take away from the fact that Jonno carried on, let's call it an emotional affair, with Ellie.

Even Ellie admitted that she’d told Ben, “I think he has a crush on me.”

But Jonno still wouldn’t admit it.

For a moment, Ellie felt sorry for Lauren.

“She doesn’t look very good,” she said to her new boyfriend.

“She’s just putting it on. It’s hilarious. She’s faking it and you’re all buying it,” Jonno said.

But if Jonno couldn’t speak the truth, Tim could.

“Jonno it’s great, you’ve met your match,” Tim said. “But at the end of the day, Lauren is blindsided. The texting, it stacks up against you. It’s a bit suss.

"She's genuinely hurt. She's got a heart, she's got feelings."

For a guy who had such trouble all season talking about his own feelings, Tim sure hit the nail on the head.
