Like it or not, there comes a time in our parenting lives when we're faced with the aftermath of someone (we're not naming names... dad) leaving a rogue tissue in a pile of washing.

It's not pretty. Nor is it easy getting the tiny bits of sticky tissue out of all the clean garments.

But what if we told you a tissue isn't the worst thing you can accidentally put through a load of washing?

Mum’s shocking find inside clean washing

With three young children to entertain during the summer holiday period, Emily made the mistake of not double checking a load of washing before she hit the 'go' button on her machine.

Inside the big pile was her young daughter's rogue nappy. Quitely squished up with a heap of t-shirts, undies, shorts and socks, screaming: "Wait! You forgot me.. you're gonna regret that!"

Jokes. Nappies can't talk. But man, if it could it would've saved Emily a whole lot of grief.

As she went to take out the clean washing, Emily got the shock of her life. She was met with a heap of what can only be described as a gazillion squashed water beads.

"The first thing I noticed was this big, glumpy mess in the washing machine door. I immediately went 'oh NO!' so loud my 7yo in the other room came running," Emily tells Kidspot.

"My first thought was that the kids had put one of their toys in there and it had exploded. You know those ones that are filled with gel balls? Like this type of situation."

Check for nappies before loading your washing

The shocked mum soon realised that the culprit was her daughter's pull-up nappy left in amongst the pile of dirty clothes. If only it warned her.

"I realised it was my daughter's nappy which we missed when loading the clothes in and it was far worse than a rogue tissue, let me tell you," she laughs.

While the absorbent gel broke out of the nappy in a way a tissue would when left in a pocket, the consistency made it much harder to remove from the clean clothing.

"The consistency is like gel, it was sticking to everything more," Em explains.

"It was EVERYWHERE. I had to put the machine on a drum cycle to clean it all out. Not sure if that was the right thing to do but seems to have worked and then I just re-rinsed everything."

While she can laugh about it now, Emily wants other parents to not make the same mistake as her.

"I know it's easier said than done but I am going to at least try to sort through my washing a tiny bit more thoroughly in future, rather than picking it up in armfuls and shoving it all in the machine," she promises.

"Also be wary of savvy 18-month-olds in pull-ups... who knows when they are going to decide to get nude!"
