A Kmart hack helping people with arthritis or other dexterity issues has been praised as a “great idea” online.

One woman took to a popular social media group – Kmart Hacks and Decor – to share her brilliant idea.

She shared pictures of multi purpose mat from Kmart, which she said she cuts up and puts over the top of jars in order to open them.

“With my arthritis hands I’ve lost strength to open up jars … I misplaced my old ‘jar opener’ and have been struggling,” the woman said.

“Then I found this multipurpose mat in the kitchen section for $5 and it’s perfect.

She added that she cut some up for her school’s Mother’s Day stall, with one mat making 32 12cm squares.

Other social media users were quick to add their praise to the post for the woman’s brilliant idea.

“What a great idea! I used to have a Tupperware jar opener but it perished and I struggled to find a replacement. I’ve got some of this in the cupboard and I’m gonna cut it up,” one said.

Another added: “Yes, have this exact thing in my kitchen!

“Best part is when they get soiled or grubby, throw them in the wash with your towels and they’re good to go all over again!”

One said she had a square of the product in her utensils draw to also help her open difficult jars.

Another said her friend does similar, but “crotchets the edges to make them look pretty”.

Others shared their own ways in order to bust open those difficult kitchen products to open.

“I just use rubber gloves,” one person commented.

Another added: “Pop the lid with a teaspoon and it opens quick and easy!

On person said to: “Pour hot water on and around lid it makes it a lot easier to open.”
