We have a 13-hour stopover in Doha and would like to see some of the sights on our own. How easy and safe is it to get around?
I’ve travelled around Doha by myself and found it to be an incredibly welcoming place where I have always felt at ease. One of the best things about it is how reliable and inexpensive the local taxis are (my preferred mode of transport here). You can flag them down like you would anywhere else, but you’re better off downloading the Karwa app and booking your car through that. The turquoise cars are easily recognisable and the rate payable is always the estimated rate on the app. Best of all, you can pay by card if you don’t happen to have any cash.
Elsewhere in Doha, the local Metro service is also excellent, and while other public transport options are available, I recommend booking the Doha Hop On Hop Off tour. You can visit all the top sights you have on your list within a 24-period at your own speed, and the ticket costs 180 Qatar riyals, or about $75 per person. You’ll even get an audio guide to give you some insight into the spots you’re visiting, so it’s well worth a look.
