Children with special needs will be able to experience a one-of-a-kind play area in a second location.
We Rock the Spectrum founder Belinda Grant has opened a second sensory gym in Christies Beach – after opening the first one in Kilkenny 11 months ago – to offer a safe space for children who need it.
The space has therapy equipment, arts and crafts, calming rooms and play equipment suitable for neurotypical and autistic kids.
The centre is also NDIS approved and all staff are trained professionals.
Ms Grant said the best part of We Rock the Spectrum sites was families who used the space could play unapologetically.
“Our tagline is, ‘Finally a place where you never have to say I’m sorry,” she said.
“We don’t have nearly enough spaces like this because the response I’m getting from the community is that places like these are a godsend for them.
“The children really do enjoy this place; we get glimpses of the children engaging with each other and you also see independent play.
“And it’s just a nice place for the parents to be able to have a conversation and see others’ children and discuss what school their kids go to or what occupational therapist they use.”
