‘It means everything’: B Captured by Ky Luu comes out on top

A former accountant who found love capturing romantic moments has been voted the state’s favourite wedding photographer … again.

After a nine-year long career in accounting, Ky Luu swapped spreadsheets for snaps and decided to pursue his love for photography.

“It has always been a passion of mine as a kid and I always have had a passion for more the artistic side of things,” Mr Luu said.

“But coming from an Asian background it is very hard to convince your family or a parent that photography is what I really enjoy doing, because to them it is hard to make a living out of.”

Mr Luu has proven his doubters wrong after being voted South Australia’s Best Wedding Photographer for 2024.

It is the second time B Captured by Ky Luu has taken out the top prize, after also winning in 2020.

“It means everything,” Mr Luu said.

“It is not the first time I have won SA’s top photographer of the year but that was for more the technical side of things, where my work is getting judged by my peers, but this time, where it is based on what the public thinks is a very different feeling.

“It is very assuring that I have won photographer of the year not only on the technical side but also on what the people, public and customers think about my work, which is amazing.”

Mr Ky Luu describes his personal photography style “as glamorous, editorial with an edge”.

“Weddings is one of those categories where you have to be good at everything,” Mr Luu said.

“That’s why I love it because that adrenaline rush that I get from wedding is like nothing else you can get in any other category.”

After shooting weddings of all different shapes and sizes, Mr Luu said his number one piece of advice for camera shy couples is to be themselves.
‘If you want to cry, cry, if you want to laugh, laugh,” he said.

“I’m there to direct you from my experience, to give you little tips.

“Consider me as one of your best friends that is also there to attend your wedding and I just happen to have a camera in my hand.”
