Unwanted guests in garage shock Aussie mums

An Australian mum’s cry for help to remove an army of unwanted visitors has shocked an online cleaning advice group.

An Australian mum sparked an unusual online discussion when she revealed to a Facebook page that her garage has become inundated with worms.

“Does anyone know how to deter worms from coming into my garage after it rains?” the woman asked on the Mums Who Clean Facebook page.

She shared an image showing the mountain of slippery worms seeking refuge along the entrance to her garage.

Comments from the group raised concerns for the worms’ welfare, ideas of what to do with them and possible reasons for their arrival.

Some users suggested using them as chicken feed or as fish bait.

Another suggested the worms may have been seeking shelter from the wet weather, and urged the original poster not to harm them.

“You can collect them in a bucket and relocate them,” they said.

“Maybe dig a little hole for them in your yard.”

Some suggested improving drainage in the area, to prevent the little critters from seeking space away from water logged soil.

The increasing numbers of little wriggly worms on footpaths around the country can be blamed on the La Nina weather system.

The worms are able to remain hydrated and can thrive in the wetter conditions, but often search for drier ground when heavier rain hits.

Further comments on the original Facebook post reveal worms hold a unique power over the mums of Australia, with many revealing they are scared of them.

“Like something out of a Stephen King novel,” one said.

“I have never touched a worm in 25 years of living,” said another.

“I’m petrified of them.”
