An Adelaide social media influencer says she was left in tears after her outfit sparked “uncomfortable” questions from Qantas staff as she tried to board a flight from Sydney.
Poppy Radbone, a family and fashion influencer, told her 30,000 Instagram followers on Tuesday she was almost denied boarding after staff began asking questions about her outfit.
Ms Radbone took aim at the airline in the caption a photo of herself posing in a Sydney restaurant.
“Shout out to Qantas for almost not letting me board my flight to Sydney on Friday because she was following ‘protocol’ as my pregnant belly was out,” she wrote,
“I literally left in tears, I was so embarrassed and never felt so uncomfortable everrrrr,” she wrote under her post.
Commenters under the post seemed to relate to Poppy’s experience.
Fellow Adelaide influencer Pippa Wanganeen said staff also once questioned over her pregnancy before boarding a flight.
“My friend who was travelling with me, congratulated me on the pregnancy as we were boarding,” she wrote in the comment section.
“I was only 14 weeks and not even showing and they [staff] would not let me board the plane until I had been fully questioned about my ‘condition.’
“It was absolutely awful!”
Another user said she had seen outfits alone be deemed unfit to fly.
“I saw someone was unable to fly as she had a crop top on and no jacket. She wasn’t even pregnant,” Pip Keenan
“I think it’s just skin in general that they don’t like. Some rule they have made up.”
A Qantas spokeswoman said the crew member made an error in advising Ms Radbone that her outfit did not meet the airlines guidelines.
“A manger subsequently advised her that she could travel,” the spokeswoman said.
“While Ms Radbone was able to board her flight in the end, we accept that the initial interaction with our crew member while she was boarding was upsetting.
“We’re reaching out to Ms Radbone to apologise.”
