Within minutes of booking an apartment online at Adelaide DressCircle Apartments – Kent Town, also known as The Palms Apartments, I received a text message and follow-up phone call to confirm my check-in time and if I needed on-site parking.
Further text messages came the day before and day of check-in to provide me with details of how to access the security card to enter the building and secure on-site car park. Reception hours are limited and we were checking in after hours.
The instructions were clear but when I tried to access the security card, it didn’t fall into the drop box as it was supposed to. A friendly gentleman came to my rescue. He managed to loosen the envelope, which was stuck behind the flap of the box, and get it out, negating the need to call the after hours service people, who are only five minutes away if you need anything.
The Palms Apartments opened in November 2017. There are 42 one and two-bedroom units over three levels. Light and bright and tastefully decorated, our east-facing apartment on the third floor is equipped for long stays.
The galley kitchen includes everything a person would need if they wanted to cook their own meals. There’s a good assortment of pots and pans, sharp knives, a microwave, cooktop, oven and dishwasher. There’s even a full size refrigerator/freezer with two small cartons of long life milk inside and complimentary cereal in the cupboard. We found a coffee plunger but only instant coffee. We were impressed that boxes of cling wrap and alfoil were available.
The kitchen also included a front loading washing machine. It makes sense as it keeps the long ensuite, which doubles as the laundry, uncluttered, with space to use the ironing board.
Wanting to freshen up before going out, we couldn’t find any towels. A call to the after hours number saw four towels delivered within 10 minutes. Great service.
My husband took advantage of the free Foxtel on the large-screen television to catch up on soccer scores, making himself comfortable on the lounge, while I got ready.
While it was his turn to use the bathroom I checked out the view from the balcony next to the lounge. A small table and two chairs take up most of the space but it would be a lovely spot to eat breakfast as the sun comes up over the hills.
If you don’t want to drive into the city, it’s an easy walk to bus stops on North Tce.
We opted to walk as the weather was balmy but more street lighting would be welcome as I found it was quite dark on our return journey.
Our big bed was super comfy and we had a great night’s sleep. It gave us a taste of inner-city living and next time we’ll stay longer.
