58,000 extra Adelaide-Bali seats a year as Jetstar lands new aircraft

Bali trips just got a bit easier after Jetstar upped its capacity by 58,000 seats a year overnight, with bargain-priced fares from Adelaide to the island paradise for under $200.

Jetstar will base two new aircraft in Adelaide from today boosting flight capacity to Bali by 58,000 seats a year.

The Airbus A321neo (NEO) aircraft will operate up to two direct flights a day between Adelaide and Bali.

The NEO has up to 46 more seats on each flight compared to the Airbus A320 aircraft which have previously flown to and from the Indonesian island.

This will boost capacity by 25 per cent between Adelaide and Bali, allowing more than 250,000 customers a year to fly between the destinations.

The first flight from Adelaide to Bali on the new NEO aircraft takes off at 6.20am on Friday.

Jetstar says the aircraft is 50 per cent quieter than similar size Airbus A320/A321s, burns up to 20 per cent less fuel, has 232 wider seats each with USB power and seat back device holders and extra-large overhead storage bins with 40 per cent more space.

The Bali boost comes as Adelaide Airport pursues its ambitious Network Vision 2050 to have direct flights to 37 cities by 2050.

Jetstar chief executive Stephanie Tully said it was a major investment in operations in Adelaide which will become the first city outside Melbourne and Sydney to be a permanent base for the A321neo.

“The newest aircraft in our fleet flying non-stop between Adelaide and Bali will add 58,000 seats a year on the popular route allowing more South Australians to access our low fares,” she said.

“The NEO is quieter, more comfortable, uses less fuel, and has up to 46 extra seats per flight compared to the A320 aircraft currently flying between Adelaide and Bali.

“With these two NEOs calling Adelaide home, Jetstar is now the leading carrier between Adelaide and Bali and we’re incredibly grateful to Adelaide Airport for its ongoing support.”

Adelaide Airport managing director, Brenton Cox was delighted with the move, noting the new aircraft will also serve domestic routes such as Cairns.

“In addition, the A321neo is significantly bigger than the A320 previously used on the route so it’s helping us grow what is one of our most popular routes in our international network,” he said.

One-way fares on the NEO between Adelaide and Bali (Denpasar) start from $199 for select travel dates in October 2023, see jetstar.com

Jetstar’s initial order of 18 NEOs is expected to be completed by the end of next year.
