It’s taken six years to build, and now a modern mansion at 9 Robe Tce, Medindie, on 4021sq m is finally finished and tipped to break the state’s residential sales record.
The Advertiser gave readers an exclusive first look at the home under construction back in October 2018 and now, more than two years on, the home is complete.
Built by commercial builder Charles (Harry) Alexander and partner Yoland Higgs, its creation has been “a true labour of love”, he said.
“The actual construction process was about four years continuously, and then we’ve spent the past two years finishing it and fitting it out,” Mr Alexander said.
“There were times where we were doing 12-hour shifts, seven days a week working on the house.
“We just worked on it until it was perfect and until it was finished. And that time has come now.
“It was designed to be a family home of grand scale.
“It’s not a house that’s going to come on the market every year – a home like this might only come on every 20 or 30 years.”
Mr Alexander said the quality of the craftsmanship was world-class, and the house had been described as elegant, but not flashy.
“We’ve had some of the state’s top builders through here and they’ve said they haven’t seen anything like it because there’s just so much detailed work,” he said.
All up, the house and guesthouse have eight bedrooms and eight bathrooms.
The main home is set over three levels and has up to seven bedrooms.
The ground floor features a grand foyer with a gallery, a massive open-plan kitchen and living area, and an indoor spa pool.
The rear yard has a covered terrace overlooking a pool and spa, pool pavilion, a tennis court and a one-bedroom guesthouse with its own double garage.
The home also has a theatre, gym, wine storage and tasting room, and an elevator.
“It’s time for a family to love it,” Mr Alexander said.
While everyone involved was tight-lipped about a potential selling price, selling agent Stephanie Williams, of Williams Real Estate, said the home should comfortably pass the highest recorded transaction in South Australian history – $8m for a Leabrook home in August 2019.
A North Adelaide property has since reportedly eclipsed that price, but CoreLogic has not yet verified its final price.
“It deserves to be the top sale because it offers more than anything that’s ever been offered to the market before,” Mrs Williams said.
“Now that it’s complete, the interest we’re receiving is amazing – already from interstate and internationally … people are very excited.”
