New parents Jimmy and Holly – who met on The Bachelor – join Stellar for their first shoot as a family, featuring their newborn son, Lennox. See the photos.

When they met on The Bachelor Australia in 2021, airline pilot Jimmy Nicholson and stylist Holly Kingston didn’t have TV stardom on their radar, let alone a reality romance.

But the cameras captured a courtship so rapid that in their first moments of meeting, the two started talking about wanting a family.

Now their union has taken flight. Jimmy popped the question on a trip to Sorrento, Italy, in August 2022, and a year later the pair exchanged vows at the Nicholson family home in Palm Beach on Sydney’s Northern Beaches.

Last year, on December 9, their son Lennox was born.

Now, as the young family join Stellar for their first official photo shoot, Holly says, “I feel like people give you a lot of doom-and-gloom stories when you’re pregnant”.

“You know: ‘There’s going to be sleepless nights, your life’s about to change, everything is about to change.’ And it definitely has, don’t get me wrong.

“But we’ve just been having quite a lot of fun. There are definitely times I wish I could go back to sleep, but we’re really enjoying being parents.”

Whether it’s an outing to the beach, walks pushing the pram or Taco Tuesdays rolling into Leftover Wednesdays, their days always end in quality time with their new son. Travel is already on the horizon, too.

Lennox has had his first passport photos taken for a family trip to Bali next month, followed by a holiday in Fiji next October to celebrate his paternal grandfather’s 70th birthday. After all, flying is in his blood.

Yet as much as they have shared the joys of their relationship and growing family with their combined 290,000 followers on Instagram, the Nicholsons have also been real about the challenges they have faced. Like one in six Australian couples, they struggled with fertility.

“We were trying for a little while, and funnily enough the day I did a pregnancy test [was] the day after you went to get your sperm checked,” Holly, 31, says to Jimmy.

“I was stressing every month it didn’t happen,” Jimmy, 35, tells Stellar. “The more you normalise it, the more you make sure people know that, actually, most people don’t get pregnant on the first or second go. That can help them, because you don’t want to be stressed during that time. You want to make sure you’re the best version of yourself when you’re trying – and I’m really glad we were vocal about that.”

Just like their engagement and wedding day – which unfolded with Jimmy’s carefully curated songs playing in the background – Holly’s planned C-section had a soundtrack.

“We got a couple of compliments on the playlist from the doctors,” Jimmy says, laughing at the reaction to the Norah Jones ballad he chose for the hero moment. “We were on our babymoon, and I came in and Holly was on the bed playing ‘Come Away With Me’ to her stomach, in tears. [She was] so excited to meet him. That was very cute.”

Lenny, as they call their son, came into the world screaming, blue, and with his feet up around his ears.

“He was frank breech and very stubborn – he was up the wrong way so had his toes in all of our ultrasounds; we didn’t ever see his face from 32 weeks onward,” Holly explains.

“I tried all the things to turn him around, but I was pretty chilled throughout the pregnancy in terms of making sure I knew whatever will be, will be.”

Nonetheless, Holly considers the birth beautiful, even as she felt numb from the waist down for six hours afterwards as well as mentally drained.

“I think it’s also normal that I didn’t immediately fall in love and have this fairytale,” she says. “I was still kind of in shock for 24 hours, I reckon.

“I will never forget when Jimmy and I got back to our room and I’d been stitched up, the midwife came in and checked [on us]. And she goes. ‘All right, well, the buzzer is there if you need me,’ and starts to walk away. I was like, ‘But what are we doing now?’ And she said, ‘Just do what you’re doing.’”

Since Lenny’s birth, the pair have tackled a few DIY projects at home, spent time with visiting family – he has a crew of cousins and friends who will grow up together, they say – and taken online attention with a grain of salt.

“All of a sudden you become a parent and everyone is giving you advice,” Holly says.

“And not only do you have normal family and friends doing that, we’ve got that added pressure of people on social media going, ‘Don’t hold the baby that way’, ‘don’t do this, don’t do that’.”

Considering how they met, and the curiosity the public still holds for them after their appearance on the ninth season of The Bachelor, what would the pair say if an older Lenny asked if he should go on reality TV?

“Absolutely not,” Holly says, laughing. “It’s such a tricky one,” Jimmy reasons. “I asked my mum that, and she said, ‘Go for it.’”

Although reality shows may seem “more and more outrageous every year so that people watch,” Holly adds, “The Bachelor was very much people wanting to see a love story. I think out of the nine seasons, five are married and have kids, and that’s pretty good success, right?”

Jimmy, who is back in the skies after taking four weeks of paternity leave, insists Holly has got things covered at home – and so does solid sleeper Lenny.

“We’re trying to be really chilled as parents and just make sure we’re doing our own thing,” he says, before adding, “I don’t want to say that we’ve got all the secrets, because we definitely don’t. And, no doubt, the next one that comes along will probably test our patience.”
