A mosaic of Glenelg jetty is the centrepiece of South Australia’s first official Lego store at Westfield Marion.
The large, wall-mounted display, which features almost 75,000 individual Lego bricks and took more than 230 hours to build, will be sure to catch the eye of fans when the store opens to the public today.
There is also a nod to SA’s Tour Down Under event, with a huge 3D Lego cyclist called Hamish – named after Lego Masters TV host Hamish Blake – taking pride of place inside.
Several young Lego enthusiasts were yesterday given a sneak peek of the retail space, including Connor, 5, and Isla, 3, of St Agnes.
“They’re massive Lego fans and they absolutely loved it,” mum Jessica Russell said.
“There’s so many fun things to see and do inside. They just had the best time and they’re eyeing off a few things for Christmas.”
The Danish brand, which was founded over 70 years ago, has teamed up with Australian investment company Alceon for the 197sq m store, on level two at Marion.
Alceon executive director Richard Facioni said Lego stores were renowned around the world for their “creativity and imagination” and the flagship Adelaide store would be no different.
“All stores in Australia and New Zealand are custom built, with each one containing unique elements,” he said.
“SA has one of the country’s most loyal and growing communities of brick fans who we know will enjoy the store’s many impressive features which are a tribute to the creative possibilities of the LEGO brick.
As well as a wide selection of the plastic construction toys, there’ll be activities and special store-only events.
