On Wednesday afternoon, social media posts started circulating that showed images of a sign posted on the doors of Sorrentos Cafe, located on Bay Road in the old post office, reading “business closed”.

The sign continues to say that the business “formerly trading as Sorrentos Cafe” is in liquidation, with Daniel Lopresti of the Adelaide-based Clifton Hall appointed liquidator as of October 15.

Many Mount Gambier locals have expressed sadness and confusion regarding the closure, some saying the business was advertising for staff “not too long ago”.

“Another small business closing down. Very sad” one local wrote on Facebook.

“Have only been there a couple of times. But thoroughly enjoyed the food each time and the service was great,” said another.

Clifton Hall have been contacted for comment.

The business and building is listed for sale, with Sorrentos Café and 5290 Function Room being sold as one.

The listed price is $370,000 plus stock.
