Boss Lady: Key to getting noticed by your boss

Getting noticed by the boss is hard at the best of times – let alone if you are an introvert, or you are working remotely so you are not in the same building.

Working from home? Here's what you can claim on tax

Getting noticed by the boss is hard at the best of times – let alone if you are working remotely so you are not in the same building.

The key is to be engaging and help others.

Ask for weekly meetings with the boss.

Even if you have group ones, have a 10-minute catch up one-on-one.

Ask for guidance if you need it.

Bosses admire that and if they are mentoring you, they will feel more connected to you. Actually attend meetings and ask questions and be engaged.

Other employees will call you a “suck up” or “goodie two shoes” or “teacher’s pet”, but that’s a good thing. It’s called effort.

If you do anything that requires project-based work, do a report at the end to show the success of it – include the objectives you were trying to achieve, outcomes and successes and even feedback for the next time you are doing that activity.

If you give that document to your boss, you will stand out more than everyone else.

It’s formalising what you do in that job and positions your value in the organisation.

You need to be able to monetise what you do.

Even if it’s just your everyday job, document it.

If you implemented something new and it saved 30 minutes a day, over a week or year what is the equivalent monetary value of the time you saved?

Whatever you do, while trying to get noticed by the boss do not throw someone else under the bus to make yourself look better.

That’s the worst thing to do.

With the current situation of many people working from home, now is a great opportunity for the introverts to get noticed.

We are all on an even playing field now.

It’s not just about being the most charismatic person in the office.

Get those one-on-ones, do Zoom meetings, send weekly emails of what you are doing.

Make it easy for the boss to promote you or give you more opportunities.

Master you skillset and branding and be the best at it.

When you are confident in what you can provide a team, it’s easy for the boss to say “You belong here and I am going to nurture that”.
