It’s said the term ‘Boxing Day’ first came to light in the 1800s when the wealthy would give their servants a day off and hand them a boxed gift to take home to share with their families. Now, December 26 is best known as one of the biggest sales events in our country – and across the globe. This year, Monash University researchers predict that two-thirds of Aussie shoppers will be delaying their festive spending until Boxing Day to take advantage of bargains, with the National Retail Association predicting Australians will spend around $5 billion in online purchases alone during the festive period.
