Five to Try: Where to get Adelaide’s best bacon and egg sandwich
Start your morning off right with one of these five must-try venues who have perfected the art of the humble egg and bacon sandwich.
The Humble Sando Grange
Specialty coffee and fresh sandos are the focus at this beachside hotspot in Adelaide’s western suburbs.
But their mouth-watering version of the bacon and egg roll is what keeps plenty of people coming back, day after day.
With double-smoked hickory bacon, a free range egg, American cheese and house BBQ sauce on a warm bun, it’s a flavour explosion that will have you wanting more.
The perfect morning pick-me-up or lunchtime bite to get you through the afternoon, we recommend you pair it with one of their Dawn Patrol single origin coffees. Bliss.

Smiley’s Tuckshop Adelaide Central Market
Showcasing local and market products, this much-loved
stall takes inspiration from classic milk bars and delis of the past.
They serve up several nostalgic, made-to-order items such as a meatball loaf sub, toasties and milkshakes made with Golden North ice cream.
But their bacon and egg rolls – complete with smoky, crispy bacon, dripping egg and their own house-made tomato sauce – really hit the spot.
Those with a sweet tooth can also enjoy treats such as bags of mixed lollies from The Old Lolly Shop, killer pythons and iced doughnuts – just like you used to back in the day.

Sublime Cafe Clarence Park
This suburban cafe favourite serves up one of the best
“big brekkie rolls” in town. The tastiest bacon, nestled in between fried egg, hash brown, American cheddar cheese, with house-made aioli and tomato chutney inside a soft focaccia bun … you’ll be in gastronomic heaven. It’s a staple of their menu, which includes a rotating series of delights called their banga sangas. These limited edition, Insta-worthy offerings are epic and will satisfy any of your hunger pangs.
On weekends, there’s also a two-hour bottomless brunch including popcorn haloumi, bubbles, mimosas and peach bellinis, among a range of treats.
55 East Ave, Clarence Park
Modish Woodcroft
This southern suburbs cafe serves up various incarnations of the bacon and egg roll – and each of them delivers in spades.
The standard fried egg and bacon option comes on a soft, damper roll and starting at just $10, it’s excellent value.
If you’re feeling adventurous, dive into the Heavenly Croissant, featuring crispy bacon, scrambled egg, avocado, Swiss cheese and homemade tomato chutney.
Some would say it’s a religious experience.
Finally, tuck into the decadent Woodcroft Local, which comes with three cheese and chive potato rostis, bacon, poached eggs and hollandaise sauce on sourdough bread.
You won’t leave disappointed or hungry.

Mr Mario’s Adelaide
From the team behind Louca’s Seafood on Pulteney St,
comes this casual takeaway eatery, situated right behind
the aforementioned venue. Delivering classic comfort food, there’s several burgers, sandos and fish and chips options
on the compact menu. Their interpretation of the bacon
and egg sandwich is stunning in its simplicity, with a gooey
egg sunny side up, American cheese alongside layers of delicious bacon, with generous helpings of chutney and
mayo to give it an extra kick. They’re not reinventing the wheel but with fresh, top-tier ingredients, it feels like an elevated version of an old favourite.
