If nothing else, 19th century novelist and British Prime Minister Benjamin Disreali appears to have been a good bloke to go to for a decent quote.
Several of the pearls of wisdom attributed to him remain in common use today, including gems such as “lies, damned lies, and statistics’ and “prepare for the worst but hope for the best’.
But as we turn the clock on a year most of us would rather forget, there’s another Disreali quote which seems most apt: “There is no education like adversity.”
That’s certainly the sentiment shared by a group of prominent South Australians asked to reflect on the lessons of the pandemic which crippled the globe in 2020.
SAWeekend sent out a series of questions to our participants, and the answers provided some consistent themes. Front and centre was the fact that we’ll all go into 2021 having learnt some serious lessons this year.
The importance of a positive mindset, flexibility and family were all high on the list, as was gratitude for loved ones and the small things in life.
Oh, and our participants, just like the rest of us, also discovered some great books and TV shows during their lockdowns. Check out their responses below.
