For many, a highlight of their annual day out at the Royal Adelaide Show is the food on offer.

With cost of living being front and centre of most punter’s minds, dining out on show fare was a decision not taken lightly.

Depending on your meal of choice, some showgoers’ wallets were lighter than last year, with items such as potatoes on sticks and turkey legs increasing by $1 and $2 respectively.

But cult favourites including the foot-long dagwood dog and fairy floss remained the same price as previous years.

Here’s what tickled this year’s attendees’ tongues.

The Hams family shared fresh Coffin Bay oysters for lunch, and all agreed it was a delicious choice.

“The vinaigrette was a nice dressing. A bit of zing, it was lovely,” Matt said.

The oysters also got a tick of approval from daughter Poppy, who “loved” them.

Elise said the seafood delicacy was a familiar favourite for them.

“When we go to Glenelg, we have the same thing at the Oyster Bay, so it would be very similar to what you get down at the Pier,” she said.

Fluffy, warm tasty doughnuts with the right amount of cinnamon were enjoyed by Tyler Ritzau and Hannah Paech-McMahon.

Mr Ritzau said the treats were the perfect accompaniment with the less-than-ideal weather.

“They’re nice and warm which is good for a cold, windy day,” he said.

The pair commented on the price of their desserts, which they described as “very expensive but worth it.”

Mochi doughnuts

The Japanese food trend of Mochi doughnuts made its way to the show this year, and Dahna Beer-Smith was keen to give them a try.

After biting into the fusion pastry, which combines American-style doughnuts and Japanese mochi, she noted they were “really fresh”.

“It tastes sweet and doughy, and cinnamon-y — It’s almost better than a cinnamon doughnut,” she said.

Fairy Floss

Fairy floss connoisseurs Isla and Isabella stuffed their painted faces with fairy floss on a stick, a treat they both thoroughly enjoyed.

When asked what it tasted like they said “strawberry”.

Both girls couldn’t wipe the smiles off their faces after getting a taste of the sugary goodness.

Waffle pop enthusiast Olivia Joyce came back for more, this time choosing a different flavour to what she’s had before — Biscoff.

“It tastes really sweet and it’s really soft,” she said.

Her flavour of choice had banana, crumble, chocolate and ice cream piled on top of a waffle on a stick.

“It’s really chocolatey and smooth,” she said.

Getting a dagwood dog at the show is something Melissa and Britney Shorter waited all year for.

The pair described the foot-long battered sausage as “the best show food ever.”

“The dagwood dog is something we usually come to the show for, you can’t get it anywhere else,” Britney said.

“It tastes like classic show food — it hasn’t changed in all my years going to the show.”

Both women rated it a perfect 10/10.

Taking on the pork lollipop were youngsters Max and Levi.

After taking a huge chunk out of the meat on a stick delicacy, the boys were clearly impressed with their feast.

“It was very sweet and juicy and was great,” Levi said.

The ratings delivered were a solid 9.3 and 9.5 out of 10.
