Prince Harry’s surprise return to London without Meghan and the kids

The Duke of Sussex is due to arrive the day before the anniversary of the Queen’s death, but it’s not clear if he’ll reunite with his family.

The last time Prince Harry was in London was on May 6 for his father, King Charles’ coronation.

His family was conspicuously absent, with Meghan Markle remaining home in California with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

He didn’t stick around for much of the fanfare; instead the Duke of Sussex hopped on a plane home to catch the last few hours of Archie’s fourth birthday.

The 38-year-old royal has announced he’ll be returning to London on September 7, the day before the anniversary of the Queen’s death, but there was no mention of his wife and kids in the official statement.

There was also no mention of the anniversary – Prince Harry’s trip is to attend the WellChild Awards, an organisation of which he’s a patron.

“For nearly 20 years, WellChild has been transforming the lives of children and young people across the U.K., providing critical care that prioritises the physical, mental and emotional wellbeing of these individuals and their families,” he said in a statement released on Wednesday local time.

Prince Harry to return to London for WellChild Awards

“The courage and strength embodied by these young people — and the tireless devotion of those who support them — never cease to inspire me,” he continued.

“I’m honoured to attend this year’s awards ceremony and celebrate their incredible work.”

Although it seems Meghan won’t attend the awards ceremony, she’ll join Harry in Germany for the Invictus Games on September 9.

It’s understood that King Charles will be spending the anniversary of his mum’s passing at Balmoral, so even with two days in London, it’s unlikely Harry will see his family.

Harry's London visit comes amid rumours of estrangement, following on from the last time Harry in the UK. 

King Charles' coronation was the first time Prince Harry has been reunited with his British family since Queen Elizabeth's passing last September, but he didn't stay long after the ceremony. 

Just a handful of hours after his father was crowned King, Prince Harry quietly boarded a plane and left London, bound for home in California to reunite with his wife and their two children. 

The fifth in line to the throne was seen by lip readers speaking to his cousin Princess Eugenie's husband Jack Brooksbank during the service. "I'm heading off," the Prince seemed to say.

Prince Harry wants to meet for peace talks

Reports emerged this week that Prince Harry wanted to meet with Prince William and King Charles on his way back through the UK from Germany to mend fences.

According to the Daily Beast, William and Charles weren't interested in making amends. 

“Charles won’t be seeing Harry and nor will William. No chance. He feels utterly betrayed by what Harry wrote about him in the book and said about him on Netflix,” said a source.
