A Sydney shopper received a surprising visit from police after an anonymous tip off alerted them to some “suspicious” behaviour in a Woolies car park.

A woman who had just returned home from shopping at Woolworths received an unexpected surprise when police arrived at her doorstep shortly after she got home.

The officers informed her that they had received an anonymous tip-off about something unusual someone had witnessed in the supermarket’s car park while she and her father were rummaging through the boot of her car.

Posting to the Cremorne Neutral Bay Community Facebook group, the woman, who lives on Sydney’s Lower North Shore, explained the bizarre situation.

“To the lady at the Neutral Bay Woolies car park who saw my dad and me looking in the boot this afternoon while we were waiting for our takeaway and called Crime Stoppers about a suspicious-looking tarp,” she began.

“The police have visited us for a welfare check – no dead bodies in the boot! Just plastic that my dad uses for work.

“We were searching for a few cans of Pringles that have gone missing. Still can’t find them.”

People in the comments were shocked at the story, and the woman who called the police was quickly labelled a “Karen.”

“What? She called the police! Come on, people, please try not to be Karens. There are already too many around, sheesh,” said one commenter.

“OMG, she gets the Karen of the Year award for calling the police! The year is still young though, so to all the other nosy Karens out there, keep up the good work,” quipped another.

However, many felt it was better to be safe than sorry.

“I applaud her! When did caring for the community become a bad thing?” one person asked.

“Just saying, if there was someone in the boot, they wouldn’t be calling her a Karen,” another group member pointed out.

Someone else agreed that the woman did the right thing because she noticed something suspicious and contacted the police.

“It’s up to the police to decide whether it’s worthy of follow-up or not,” they said.

Meanwhile, others made light of the situation, with one joking, “Should’ve gone to Specsavers” as someone else referred to the author as a “Pringlenapper.”

“Did the police take a missing Pringles report?” a different man chuckled.

One local suggested that the woman might have been watching too much true crime.

And then some commenters shared similar experiences, including one person who had a visit from the police because they were working in the garage with a large bag of green leaves, which turned out to be for making dolmades – a Greek snack made with vine leaves.

“I had cops called on me every time I packed or unpacked my motorbike in front of my flat,” another person shared.
