Charlotte’s web: Have you seen this missing pig?

The cold, wet weather sweeping South Australia has sparked a desperate plea from a family whose unique pet vanished on Tuesday.

Barossa drivers have been urged to keep an eye out for a cheeky red pig named Charlotte who escaped from her trailer on Tuesday morning.

Charlotte’s owner Ashlyn Allen was taking her, and her mate Charlie, to the vet in Nuriootpa when she made a dash for freedom.

“We were transporting them in a cage trailer with a tarp over the top,” Ms Allen said.

“They weren’t tethered because they’re only about four months old and it’s not appropriate to have them on a collar just yet.

“We got to the vet clinic and, unfortunately, Charlotte wasn’t in the trailer anymore. We’re not sure how she got out, it’s a very small gap.”

Ms Allen said Charlotte slipped the trailer somewhere between her home, just out of Truro, and Nuriootpa, and distance of around 35km.

The mother of two said her children were quite worried about Charlotte, a beloved family pet.

“My six-year-old son is particularly concerned that Charlotte missed out on lunch on Tuesday,” she said.

Charlotte was hand raised and Ms Allen said she was quite dependent on people for her needs.

“She could be injured, she won’t cope with the weather and obviously we’re worried about her access to food and water,” she said.

“And because she’s an orange colour she looks a lot like the dirt, which doesn’t help at all.”

And the Allen family aren’t the only ones fretting for Charlotte.

“Charlie is a bit lost without her too,” Ms Allen said.
