‘So special’: 7yo starts a lemonade stand to raise money for mum’s tombstone

“I didn’t know a little lemonade would bring this many people to my house,” the little girl said. “It’s fun, but it’s unbelievable at the same time.”

How to deal with grief and the loss of a loved one

A seven-year-old girl has gone viral for setting up a lemonade stand to help raise funds to buy her late mother a headstone.

Emouree, seven, from Alabama in the US, was rocked to the core when her beloved mum Karli, died unexpectedly in March at the age of 29.

The little girl was absolutely heartbroken and decided to help support her family in any way she could, by starting a lemonade stand.

Seven-year-old’s lemonade stand touches the community

The family were dealing with the tragedy of losing their beloved relative when the shock of paying for the funeral and burial costs hit.

The price of a headstone alone was exceedingly expensive, but 7yo Emouree knew what to do.

“Emouree is so special,” grandmother Jennifer told WDBJ. “If a lady over here was hurt, she would take something to help her.”

Starting a lemonade stand, the 7yo would sit in front of her house and sell her signature beverage for $1 per cup, telling reporters this was her way of paying tribute to her mum.

It didn’t take long for neighbours and locals in the neighbourhood to contribute to the cause, stuffing dollar bills into the child’s money tin.

Things were going well for the little girl, but a social media post by Emouree’s grandmother really got the word out.

Soon, firefighters, nurses, police officers and locals were standing in line at Emouree’s lemonade stand, giving her much more than just the single dollar she requested for the drink.

“I didn’t know just making a little lemonade would bring this many people to my house,” Emouree told WHNT. “It’s fun, but it’s unbelievable at the same time.”

The lines were stretching, with some kindhearted locals offering her hundreds of dollars in exchange for a cup.

Raising money is “helping her heal”

Amazingly, Emouree’s lemonade stand touched so many people that she ended up raising over $10,000 (A$15,144) for her mum’s tombstone.

Her grandmother, Jennifer, is astounded by the love and support the community has offered during such a difficult time.

“I’ve just been amazed and have cried happy tears, felt a peaceful and happiness because everybody came to support my little granddaughter,” she said.

“That’s what I wanted the most for her, to not be heartbroken because that’s my world.”

The lemonade stand isn’t just a great way for Emouree to raise money for her beloved mum, Jennifer continued.

“It’s helping her heal, I know her mumma is looking down on her and is so happy.”
