My dentist ruined my pregnancy announcement

"She apologised for the way it happened, but I didn’t want to share the news with anyone."

Ultrasound tech reveals the rude comments during pregnancy scan

An expectant mum has more reasons than most to avoid the dentist.

After telling her dentist she was pregnant in the course of her examination, the woman later discovered that the professional had let the news slip - to the woman's own mum.

“My dentist, who also treats my mother and has a rather friendly relationship with her, accidentally let it slip during a conversation,” she said.

“She called me immediately after my mother left and apologised profusely.”

"Incredibly awkward"

The expectant mother shared on Reddit that she’d been keeping the news under wraps, but had no choice but to tell the dentist.

“I had informed her a few weeks ago because of the need for an X-ray."

Unfortunately, that led to an unexpected breach of privacy.

“This pregnancy is probably the most personal and private matter of my life so far,” she stressed.

“I didn’t want to share the news with anyone until I was more certain that everything was progressing as it should.”

Like many parents-to-be, she wanted to wait to share her news.

Despite their strained relationship, she had plans to tell her mum — on her own terms.

“I planned to inform my parents about the pregnancy, but only around the beginning of the second trimester, after all the tests and screenings."

Instead, the dentist’s slip forced her to make a difficult phone call.

“I phoned my mother and officially told her about the pregnancy. It was incredibly awkward. I asked her to keep the information to herself for now.”

"Make a complaint"

Reddit users were quick to rally around the disappointed woman.

“I’m so sorry this happened to you. There is honestly no excuse for it,” one said.

“She owes ya some free teeth whitening or something!” another joked.

“You would be well within your rights to complain if you want to,” a third added.

One user even shared a similar experience.

“This almost happened to me!” they wrote.

“I just wanted to say that it can happen and yes it is a confidentiality breach.”

While she felt “absolutely awful and disappointed”, she’s choosing to forgive.

“She’s a nice person. Although it’s uncomfortable for me, I can understand the human factor and that she did it by mistake."
