Mum asks which of her kids' 'rude and gross' acts in public you would hate more

"Kids don’t love shoes. Ours take them off whenever they can," mum Kailah writes as one example, in a highly controversial post.

Parents Kailah and Kyle Fredette have two pre-school girls, and are living a nomadic life, according to their Instagram

Not only have they shrugged off a 'traditional' life, they're also raising their daughters with adherence to as few rules as possible whilst they travel.

And proud of it.

'We don't want to go against our core values'

The family recently posted footage of their girls in a restaurant, with shoes removed, and watching a tablet as they ate. The clip was captioned:

"We’re SUPER cautious about making absolute rules for traveling with our kids.  Mostly because there are so many variables with both kids and travel that when you put them together it can get really chaotic. So we aim to make travel days as stress free as possible, while not going against our core values as a family.

"Sometimes we just want to finish our meal, but our kids are a little restless. So we pull out a tablet to tide us over. We limit screen time otherwise, so in situations like this, it’s not a big deal for us.

"Kids also don’t love shoes. Ours take them off whenever they get a chance. Yes, even at the dinner table. Could we force them to put them back on? Sure. But honestly is it impacting anyone? Probably not.

"At the end of the day, we’re all about balance and staying away from absolute rules. We’ve just found that they set us up for failure or undue stress."

"Shoes off is a disgrace"

The family has 44k followers on Instagram, and many of them didn't hold back on expressing their thoughts on the vision.

"Tablets can allow the whole restaurant to eat in peace. It’s a last minute Hail Mary that has saved a couple of delayed dinners with cranky toddlers," one viewer wrote, before adding, "Shoes off is a disgrace."

Another slammed the parents quite harshly: "Parents that don’t teach their children how proper etiquette in public. You post this this like it’s normal & cute, when in fact its rude & gross."

This person judged: "This is why people automatically don’t like kids in public spaces. Parents that can’t parent."

There was also a hygiene warning: "Eeeewwwww. I used to clean the floors at restaurants. Don't. Just don't," to which another rejoined: "They’re gonna have pea sized attention spans and athletes' foot."

Well, time will tell about that.

Finally, we found a supportive take: "I used to ask my parents all the time when we were out to eat if I could take my shoes off. Looks like your kids are sitting there calmly, not getting up to harass other patrons, screaming or causing a scene and when they need to go to the bathroom you put the shoes on (hopefully). I’ll bet you tip too. Zero issues here.

"There’s bigger issues out there to be upset over then shoes on at the table."
