'I served a table of two 7-year-olds on a first date'

"They wanted to be at a different table so their parents wouldn't embarrass them," the waiter shares.

7 ways to get Christmas organised early

It's like taking a page out of your favourite rom com: boy has a crush on the girl next door, growing up together on the same street. They finally have a chance to have their first date. The only hiccup, they needed mum and dad to drive them to the restaurant, as they are only seven.

It's just the kind of heartwarming story we all need right now.

Working at an upscale restaurant, this waiter expects couples on a first date; but was surprised to see that the table he would be serving were a couple of seven-year-olds on their first date.... accompanied by their parents at a different table!

"They wanted to be on a different table"

The waiter shares on Tales From Your Server, "During my shift tonight, the hostess came up to me to inform me they had to double seat me, because one table was parents, and the other were their kids on a date."

"They wanted to be at a different table so their parents wouldn't embarrass them, but their parents wanted to be nearby to supervise it.

"I assumed it was going to be high schoolers, but I walked up to these two seven-year-old kids just sitting at alone. They had a kid's menu and were just giggling away."

The waiter goes on to share just how adorable the kids were. The parents told the waiter the kids "could order whatever they wanted."

"I asked if I could get them something to drink. The little boy was like, 'after her!' I asked if I could get any appetizers started for them, and the boy ordered mussels and a side of toast (for the broth). They ate every single piece."

When the couple was asked how they like their first course, they blushed and shared it was a fun experience for them. The little girl had never had mussels in her "whole life" and her dinner date convinced her to try them, and she "loved them."

According to the waiter, her date, the little boy "was just beaming."

"I went to the parents and told them their kids are incredibly mature and so cute. The parents then shared that the two had grown up together and have been crushing on each other for years."

In true kid fashion, they ordered chicken schnitzel and chips for their dinner and for dessert shared a creme brulee. They captured everyone's hearts in the restaurant both patrons and staff.

"My manager gave them half glasses of zero-proof champagne to toast with."

How was the rest of the date?

The cutest couple on the block, loved their meal and were extremely complimentary of the waiters and staff.

"They conversed the whole time and giggled. I got talking with one of the mums about it, 'how you would think having a crush on each other would make them shy,' but the conversation was literally nonstop. It was the cutest thing."

The young couple had won the heart of the table next to them as well. The waiter adds that this couple in their 50's had finished their meal just after the seven-year-olds received their appetizers, but they weren't ready to leave.

"They flagged me down to ask if it was ok if they reopened it (their tab), solely because they wanted to keep listening to the kids," which made the waiter's night.

Their love spread across the restaurant

This tale has won the hearts of many, with Instagram users sharing their thoughts about the young couple's first date.

"I love the duality of getting mussels and wine broth for a starter and then chicken tenders for the main course," one said.

"One of my longest 'relationships' was two years with a boy from kindergarten. I thought I was going to marry him. I would have loved a restaurant date at that age because it's so much more fun to play grownups than to actually be grown up."

Another added, "Imagine having conversation through an entire meal without a phone in sight - lessons from the littles… oh, and let’s not forget all the giggles too!"

And a third said., "My son asked his girl bestie for an ice cream date on Valentine’s Day this past February. They were in kindergarten. The other mom was on board and it was one of the cutest things I’ve ever seen my son do."

The love story ends here for now, but many commentators would like a sequel and follow up in 20 years' time. Let's believe in love and think they will end up together one day.
