'I got my baby’s ears pierced – she screamed but it was worth it'

"Sometimes being a mum hurts," the woman admitted in her clip that had thousands horrified.

I pierced my baby's ears and it was worth it

As parents, the one thing we want to avoid is seeing our children in pain. But sadly, that's not reality. In the real world, they will experience pain; there are vaccinations, falls and heartaches they have to bear. One mother this week has shared how it feels to witness that - in a fairly controversial way - on TikTok

It all started when the woman - who goes by - @queennn_cee on TikTok - shared a clip of her experience and captioned it: "Sometimes being a mum hurts."

Text overlayed in the video reveals that her two-month-old baby is having her ears pierced. The clip, with almost 800K views, has the mother behind the camera while the baby dressed in a pink outfit is sitting on her dad's lap knee, and is being prepped for her piercing.

The beautician hovers over her ear, then the piercing is done. The baby screams in pain as more text says: "My heart hurts."

The cries are difficult to hear, but it's important to note that some people pierce their baby's ears as "part of a traditional rite of passage for their cultural group." (Although it's not enitrely clear if that is the mum's motivation in this instance.)

"Worth the pain"

It was only half the battle as the piercer moved around to the baby's other ear - prompting a louder cry. The mum ends the video by telling her child it was "worth the pain my little queen."

The video has sparked controversy in the comments section as some viewers expressed fury at the baby having her ears pierced so young, while others came to the defence of the mum.

One person expressed their thoughts, saying: "That is so so messed up to do that to a little newborn baby."

And another agreed, writing: "Too young to do that!"

In the comments section, the mother stood by her decision, indicating that the procedure was normal to her by saying, "My mum got mine done the day after I was born."

"This ain't about you"

Some viewers had a more relaxed reaction.

"Y’all, it’s not messed up. I got mine pierced at two months old, too, and I’m so glad for it," one said.

Another agreed, "Ya'll actin like it's giving her fatal injuries babies cry all the time, as long as it's not constantly hurting her, I see no problem."

While this viewer shared, "Parents do this so they won't remember it when they are older so they can have ear piercings without remembering the pain."

Then there were those confused by the mum's response. They noted that she made the choice to do this to her baby - and even went to Mexico for the procedure, where it's accessible - so they weren't empathetic to her feeling "hurt" while watching her daughter scream.

"Okay, but this ain't about YOU," one said.

This was seconded by another who wrote, "Your heart hurts but you're the one causing her the pain?"
