‘Gentle soul’: Touching tribute for mum-of-two killed in Bondi Junction tragedy

Friends and family have paid tribute to Jade Young, a Sydney mum-of-two who was murdered during the horrific Bondi Junction massacre.

Jade Young, 47, was shopping at Westfield Bondi Junction on Saturday afternoon when 40yo Joel Cauchi went on a stabbing frenzy, killing and injuring several people. 

Five women and one man were murdered, sending shockwaves throughout the entire country.

Mum killed in Bondi massacre a “kind, beautiful soul” 

Jade’s family said the pain they’re feeling following the devastating tragedy was indescribable, leaving a huge hole in their lives.

“There are no words to describe the sense of loss, sadness and grief Jade's family have been experiencing after the shocking events at Bondi Junction,” said the family. 

Jade was the mother of two daughters, Audrey and Maisey, and was a passionate member of the Bronte Surf Club, where she enjoyed catching waves with friends. 

She was also a talented creative, working as an architect at a Sydney architect firm.

“The entire family is still in shock and coming to terms with the loss of Jade, with two of the family members directly involved at the time of the fatal attack on their beautiful daughter, wife and mother of two,” the statement continued. 

Remembered as a “special soul”, she “touched many lives” with her warmth and kindness.

The family have since set up a GoFundMe campaign to support Jade’s family as they grieve. 

At the time of writing, it has raised over $157,000, which will help assist her family as they recover and rebuild following the tragedy. 

“We want to thank those friends and community members who have stepped in with offers of help and donations,” the family continued.

Days after the tragic incident, tributes to the Sydney mum-of-two flooded social media.

“I can’t even believe I am writing this, it doesn’t feel real. Jade was part of our GWA team for over 12 years. She was family,” said a colleague, per The Daily Telegraph.

“Anyone who knew Jade knew what a beautiful, kind and warm soul she was. 

“We are completely devastated,” it continued. “All our love goes out to her family. We love you, Jade.” 

Others described the Sydney woman as a “delightful, kind and talented” woman, who worked hard and put effort into everything she did. 

“Jade was such a gentle soul and a truly kind and beautiful human being,” a former client said. “I am devastated.”
