Couple praised for their ‘utterly uplifting’ act to unaccompanied child on plane

“They quickly realised this wouldn’t be a relaxing flight… but they just rolled with it”

On a late-night flight in the US, Josh was hoping for a relaxing flight

As he boarded the plane, he sat down beside a young girl.

The child was on her way to see her mum and was bursting with energy as the plane was getting ready for takeoff.

But she was by herself, and it seemed that no one was ready to help out.

“Anyone could have sat next to her … but most avoided the child”

In a resurfaced Tweet, Josh explained that the airline’s open seating arrangement allowed anyone to sit anywhere they wished.

“Anyone could have sat next to her,” he explained. However, “many people avoided her and her boundless energy during boarding”.

Before too long, a young couple sat in the seats beside her and prepared for the flight.

Still bubbling with excitement about seeing her mum, she “began chatting” to the adults next to her.

“The couple likely realised this wouldn’t be a relaxing flight,” Josh laughed. “...and they just rolled with it.”

Couple “followed” the child’s instructions without complaint

The flight continued, and as drinks were being served to the passengers, the couple continued listening to the unaccompanied girl’s stories.

"The couple didn’t even get a chance to voice their requests because they were cut off by the young girl stating, 'I’ll take water with a straw, and so will they so we can paint!'" he said.

“And they just rolled with it."

The fun didn’t stop there. “Within minutes, the young girl had brought out her Hello Kitty paint sheets,” Josh continued. “The couple spent the next hour following her instructions.”

The accompanying photo showed the girl with sheets of paper, paints, and brushes. Next to her was the couple, also enjoying the creative equipment.

“As I type this, the man next to her is being covered with Marvel stickers,” Josh continued. “They are on his ears, in his beard, arms, everywhere,” he said.

“And he is just rolling with it.”

“Moral of the story: There is good in this world,” he closed out the Tweet. “In fact, there is more good than bad in this world if we just open our eyes to it.”

“In a world where you can be anything, be kind … especially to kids!”

There was a wave of comments supporting the couple’s actions and pointing out the kindness required to handle such a situation.

“In a world where you can be anything… be kind… especially to children,” one person wrote.

Others confessed how “utterly uplifting” it was to see the couple “rolling with it”.

“Kudos to the couple helping the little girl out,” commented one person. “We never know in these situations if the kid is going to good or bad circumstances.”

“More people need to learn patience like this,” said another supporter. “Kindness costs zero dollars.”
