"A violent test of morality and humanity..."
That's how the Netflix description reads for Squid Game's highly-anticipated second series.
In a rather strange way (is there any other way when you're a fan of the quirky Korean show?), the description has many people around the globe excited.
Why? It's the first time fans get to see a clip of series 2 and a solid hint at what to expect. Oh, and it's also the first time they've been given an official release date!

Squid Game 2 is officially coming!
Sadly, die-hard fans are going to have to wait a little longer. Like closer to OVER THREE years since the first season dominated the world.
Through a message shared by executive producer, writer and director of the series, Hwang Dong-Hyuk, Netflix confirmed that the second series of Squid Game will be appearing on the platform on December 26th 2024.
"I am beyond excited to be writing this letter to announce the date for season 2 and share the news of season 3, the final season, " Hwang Dong-Hyuk writes.
"On the first day we began shooting season 2, I remember thinking: 'wow, I can't believe I'm back in the world of Squid Game.' It almost felt surreal. I wonder how it will feel for you to be back in Squid Game after three years, as well."
Along with the letter, Netflix confirmed that there won't be as much of a wait for the final installment, with the third series dropping in 2025.

What we know so far about Squid Game season 2
So what's the new show going to be about?
According to recent hints, fans can expect a "whole new round" for Squid Game 2 with some old favourite characters returning and some new ones, too.
We heard rumours of Gi-hun and The Front Man returning and the introduction to Red Light, Green Light doll, Young-hee's boyfriend, and Hwang Dong-Hyuk has confirmed a few things that fans can expect in December.
"Seong Gi-hun who vowed revenge at the end of season 1, returns and joins the game again," he admits.
"Will he succeed in getting his revenge? Front Man doesn't seem to be an easy opponent this time either. The fierce clash between their two worlds will continue into the series finale with season 3, which will be brought to you next year."

Fans can't wait after the short trailer
While it doesn't tell us much apart from that there will be a deadly race that takes many casualties, the season 2 trailer has fans around the world counting down the days until the December release.
"It's honestly crazy how big this show was in season 1 , season 2 will for sure will be crazier," one fan wrote on YouTube.
Meanwhile, others mocked the creator for the lengthy wait time between the two series.
"The owner finally remembered he had a show," they wrote.
Another defended the creators: "So that’s what they’ve been doing after 3 years, they’ve been making a season 2 and 3, respect."
