Nestlé favourite removed from supermarket shelves
Nestlé has confirmed that one of their most-loved Christmas buys has been removed from Aussie shelves, with no return in sight.
Aussies are up in arms after discovering that one of our most loved Christmas classics has been discontinued.
It’s official – you won’t be able to find Nestlé Quality Street chocolates in stores this Christmas.
The news recently spread to Facebook, with a fan of the treats posting to the Old Shops Australia Facebook page that they’re no longer being imported into Australia.
In a statement to the Daily Mail, Nestlé confirmed the disappointing fact.
“Unfortunately, we have made the tough decision to stop importing Quality Street,” a spokesperson said.
“We know Quality Street are cherished favourites and will be missed by many.”
They did note that though Quality Street chocolates won’t be returning, it doesn’t impact their wider range of goodies.
“But we’re continuing to make Christmas sweet for our chocolate lovers with our new and returning favourites like the KitKat Christmas Cabin, KitKat 12 Breaks of Christmas Advent Calendar, Allen’s BonBon, Allen’s Giant Freckle, and Milkybar Gingerbread Smash.
“Our festive treats are designed to bring people together, for sharing, and creating new traditions, one delicious bite at a time.”
Despite this information, Aussies are not happy, sharing their grievances to social media.
“Damn I wondered where they went!!” said one person.
“That explains why I haven’t seen them in stores. We used to get a tin (then tub) every Christmas as a treat. I guess not anymore,” said another.
“This is sad as this is my childhood chocolate that I love very much. Have been looking for them this year to no avail. What a shame!” a third agreed.
However, some weren’t so upset, as the news has come just one year after Aussies realised how small the tins had truly gotten.
Last December, a photo of Nestle’s Quality Streets tin was shared to social media, comparing the size from the ‘80s to now.
The image showed the box get progressively smaller as the years went on – in the 40 year span, it appeared to have halved in size.
And, at the time, people weren’t happy.
“Always got told not to dig and to take one from the top. Wouldn’t have to dig now could see to the bottom,” one social media user commented.
Another added: “It’s just STREET now, the QUALITY has long since gone!!”
“They also don’t taste the same now. Tasted so much better back then. Same with chocolate bars and packets of crisps. They were bigger, cheaper and tasted better back then,” said another person.
So, perhaps it’s not that disappointing after all.
