Dinner parties often involve quality time spent with friends, good food, good wine and good conversation.

One thing they usually don't involve is a price tag (at least not for the guests!)

Which is why one mum was left shocked when her friend threw an unexpected curveball and asked her to pay for her food at a dinner party that she hosted.

"They sent us a message after asking for money for each person!"

Taking to Mumsnet to vent, the anonymous mum @coldbrewinsummer shared the details.

"We were invited to a friend's house for dinner. Took a bottle of good wine with us, we wouldn’t ever go empty-handed," she began.

The woman continued, "We had a good meal, but they sent us a message after asking for money for each person! I thought this was crazy and I would never ask anyone to pay for their food if I invited them over!"

She then asked the forum if she was justified in being "a bit annoyed" and added that she and her partner had already invited her friend over to their place in a few weeks' time and "wouldn't ask for anything."

"That's awful behaviour!!! What is wrong with some people?!"

Everyone was quick to weigh in on the eyebrow-raising saga.

Then this user claimed, "That's incredibly rude."

"If they couldn't afford to host then they should have asked everyone over and to bring a plate of food," a different mum suggested.

"Or say come over and we will get a takeaway, but would everyone mind paying for their own share? But to ask for money afterwards is just crazy."

"I would be absolutely mortified to know someone that tight," another user revealed.

Then the OP made a follow-up comment explaining that she understood that the steaks they ate would have been expensive, but she still "wouldn't dream" of charging someone after the event.
