Mum's lucrative side hustle rakes in $400/week

Taking to a budgeting Facebook group, she shared how she turned the mundane task of ironing into a lucrative gig, tackling the mountains of other people’s laundry baskets from the comfort of her own living room.

“I charge per basket of up to 30 items,” she explained.

“I start on Airtasker but all of my clients end up continuing with me, privately,” she added.

Airtasker is a platform that helps people find freelance jobs and also safeguards them against people who don’t end up paying.

Other side hustle ideas

Commenters praised the mum for her clever idea and work ethic, with some vowing to give it a go themselves for some extra cash.

Then others shared their own simple side hustles, giving other group members even more inspiration.

“We deliver catalogues for a bit of extra cash, and to force us to exercise... at the moment I make an extra $160 a week, which isn't huge, but I'm getting fitter, and it pays the grocery bill,” one aged-care worker said.

Another wrote, “Try hospitality jobs bars/pubs/restaurants. Pretty good Flexi hours and pay rates are pretty good, $30-per-hour.”

“Look on Airtasker - if you have a ute, dump runs - I did 20k last year as my second job. On top of that a lot of dump runs had decent stuff that I sold, like furniture, golf clubs,” concluded a third.

Others suggested disability support work and night-fill shifts at supermarkets.
