A pre-game superstition turned these two Matildas teammates into travel buddies.

How did you meet?
We met at a Matildas camp in June 2021 in Sweden. It was Charli’s very first camp and one of my first camps. Charli’s from Adelaide and I’m from Brisbane, but we didn’t play in the same age group. We sat next to each other all the time on the bus and then we couldn’t change it because it became a pre-game superstition!
How do you pack?
I pack to make sure I have options. Matildas get big bags so you might as well have everything covered!
What makes Charli a good travel buddy?
Charli has good vibes. She doesn’t complain and just has a great energy with whatever we do.
How do your travel personas align or differ?
Charli doesn’t really know where she’s going unless she has to, whereas I like to know exactly what’s happening. Although I always ask for Charli’s input – I tell her to do a little research and send me what she wants to add in.
What travel plans do you have in the works?
Greece and the Amalfi Coast. They’re the two places on the top of our list so far. I’m already sending Charli places from there on Instagram.
How do you take time out on the trip (from each other) or don’t you?
We don’t really need that much time away from each other to be honest. Sometimes it’s just 20 minutes now and again of video calls with family or friends, but even then, we can be in the same room.
How do you cope with any travel frictions?
Any time that we’ve been angry or irritable it’s just because we’re overtired. We’re often on long flights heading to places for Matildas matches so it means we’re both in that mood together. I feel like we really support each other through.
What’s on your travel bucket list?
Switzerland is up there. Then after that I’d like to do more of Australia, especially the Great Barrier Reef.
What’s one thing you learnt about Charli through travelling?
Charli has a really long fuse. She is so patient, and it takes a lot to get her annoyed. She is super easy going.

How many trips have you taken together?
We’ve taken more than 25 trips together to some amazing parts of the world from Sweden to Spain, France, Ireland, England and Japan. Football has really opened up the world and the possibilities for us to travel together.
What is your most memorable trip together and why?
Paris, definitely. It was a trip in February 2022 that we booked last minute but everything just fell together so well. It’s not often to get time off from football so it was just nice to do a mini holiday even though we saw everything in three days!
How do you pack?
It actually depends on where we’re going. For Paris I was just coming back from a Matildas trip and heading to Sweden to play football, so I had a huge suitcase. But to be honest, my non-camp bag is still the same size. You have to be prepared because you never know what you’re going to do.
What makes Teagan a good travel buddy?
Teagan is so organised and follows all the instructions at the airport so Ijust follow her and get to the destination every time. When we went to Paris, Teagan found all the places and was just really planned with everything, it makes it so easy.
How do your travel personas align or differ?
When I’m on my own, I usually know how to get somewhere but when I’m with others I just follow Teagan. Teagan gets me to the places where I need to be. She makes things super easy and we spend so much time together we just know each other inside out. We both are on the same page.
What travel plans do you have in the works?
Greece is definitely up there. We had it planned but it got cancelled last year. Santorini, Mykonos … we are not really bothered where but it will be a chill holiday that’s for sure.
What’s on your travel bucket list?
The Swiss Alps – I would love to go to. Luckily for me, Teagan wants to go as well so we have started thinking about how we can make it happen. It’s one of those places that looks like a postcard.
What’s one thing you learnt about Teagan through travelling?
She gets really passionate about finding new experiences and then it makes me excited about it. Because I am laid back about things, when she gets excited about what we are about to do it brings me along. Teagan also is really patient. I would have thought that she would get a little irritated with all that she puts together for our trips, but she is just chill about it.
