Katheryn Blewett, wife of retired cricket star Greg, creates a signature range of candles

There’s another Blewett making their mark at the Adelaide Oval – and this one is a distinctly bright spark.

How the Adelaide Oval Hotel is being marketed

There’s another Blewett making their mark at the home of SA cricket, Adelaide Oval.

Katheryn Blewett, wife of retired star Greg, has teamed up with the historic ground’s adjoining Oval Hotel to create a selection of signature-scented candles.

It’s part of her high-end range of personal care products, Nektar Australia, which has become a million-dollar business in less than two years.

A former lawyer, Katheryn said the new partnership, which will see the natural soy candles available in the hotel’s lobby, was the perfect fit.

“The Oval is almost like our second home. We drive by all the time, so it seems very fitting that we have the opportunity to have Nektar in such an incredible space,” she said.

“It was created to encapsulate what the Oval stands for. It’s all about living in the moment.”

Featuring a blend of soft florals, deep cedarwood, fresh citrus and sea salt, the candles will be available from August.

Greg, who played 46 Tests for Australia and is now a Triple M radio host, said he was “incredibly proud” of what his wife has achieved.

“The amount of work she’s put in, she’s unbelievably driven. If I had that much drive in me at the start of my cricket career, I’d have played 150 Test matches,” he said.

Katheryn singlehandedly launched Nektar from scratch in August 2020 with a collection of all-natural products including hand and body washes, soap bars, hydrating lotions and diffusers, which are now stocked in over 80 boutique stores nationally and in New Zealand. There’s also plans for an organic pet care range in the near future.

“Sophistication coupled with eco-luxury, that’s what we’re about,” she said.

The business also benefited from launching as the pandemic arrived in Australia, Katheryn said.

“Covid had hit and people were conscious of washing their hands, and their hygeine. It was quite fortunate timing,” she said.

“More than ever, people are aware about their health and the space that they live in and the environment. I didn’t envisage it would be this big but it’s been a wonderful surprise. It's been very unexpected.”
